How to use the Home plan
Updated
The Home plan is everything in the Free plan, plus AI that does the typing and thinking for you, spending and waste reports, and no ads. It starts with a 7-day free trial. Here's each feature and where to find it.
Say it: add things by talking
On the website (Chrome, Edge or Safari), tap Say it on the Grocery list or in Inventory → Add items, then Start talking. Pinch talks back and keeps listening until you tap Stop, say "that's all", or leave the page.
- Grocery list: say as much as you like - "milk, a dozen eggs and two pounds of ground beef" - and each one is added.
- Inventory: say what you're adding - "a 12 ounce bottle of hot sauce" - and Pinch asks for the brand, the best-by date and where it goes. Say "skip" or "don't know" for anything you don't have. Each item is saved once it's complete.
- Dates can be said naturally: "March next year", "in two weeks", "the 20th".
Scan instead of typing
In Inventory → Add items:
- Receipt: take a photo of a receipt or paste its text. Everything on it is listed for you to check, then added in one go - with prices, for the spending report.
- Item photo: for food without a barcode, like produce or bulk bins.
- Shelf (under More): one photo of a shelf adds what's on it.
Also: Photo of a list on the grocery list reads a handwritten list, and on the Places page a photo of a room finds its cupboards and shelves - or of a cabinet, to count its shelves.
Recipes
- AI recipe import: paste a recipe's text, or take a photo of a cookbook page or recipe card. Recipes → Import → Several at once reads a PDF, Word document or text file full of recipes, or up to 10 photos.
- Suggest a substitute for an ingredient you're out of, favoring what you have.
- Make this healthier suggests swaps that keep the dish recognizable. Applying swaps makes a separate version - your original stays as it was.
Meal planning and costs
- Plan my week (on the Meal plan): pick the meals and days, and get a plan built around what you already have.
- Meal costs: pick your Kroger store on the Account page, and recipes and the week's plan show an estimated cost.
Reports, extras and no ads
- Spending & waste: what you've spent, from your receipts and item prices, and what got thrown out instead of eaten.
- Make your own imp: turn a photo into your own Pinch-style avatar on the Account page.
- No ads anywhere.
Monthly limits
The AI features have generous monthly allowances, so nobody's account can run up a bill. They reset on the 1st of each month:
- Photos and receipts (receipts, items, shelves, rooms, cabinets and handwritten lists): 20
- AI recipe imports: 30
- Substitute suggestions: 50
- Make this healthier: 30
- Plan my week: 12
- Say it: 400 things said
- Make your own imp: 5 tries
A scan or suggestion that fails doesn't count. Ran out? Everything still works by hand, and your own AI can help for free (see Have your own AI?).
Free months
You can earn free months of Home: one for an approved review of the app, and one for each confirmed first report of a bug (up to three). Free months add up.
